I am interested enough to continue with the series. hopefully it isn't dangled for too long).Īll in all, very creative, with a few issues. (Although I don't get all the secrecy surrounding the one point completely. and have me very intrigued, specially the latter.

Felt like it was put there for drama's sake.Ī couple surprises came late in the game. I wanted to smack Darcy at one point when she discovered a certain clue and went after it herself.

The motive made sense but it felt like (to me) that it came out of left field, so to speak. a bit except it was more of "Oh, that's who it was." type of reaction. When the killer was revealed, it WAS a surprise but I felt. I kept going with the book because I fell in love with the village and its inhabitants. The mystery of the murder and the culprit didn't pull me in for the most part, I was curious enough to see who did it and why but otherwise I wasn't really invested. The half-crafter part for the mortal spouse was creative though, I'll give you that. and the child too then, when his/her powers come into play (if the mom/dad crafter raises them like that?). Seems unfair to the person in question to ask them to keep such a big part of themselves from their husband/wife. Why not just a spell of forgetfulness if the couple parts? Or a spell that would prevent them from blabbing instead? Now I can understand keeping the magical community safe by not blabbing to outsiders and if the marriage doesn't work out, the former other half blabbing to anyone they knew to try and get back at their ex (though would anyone believe em?).īut on the other hand, losing your powers because you don't want to keep it secret from your spouse. One part that didn't sit well with me was the crafter losing their powers if they tell their mortal spouse yet the husband/wife becomes a half crafter by marriage but no powers, just knowledge. each person having a specific craft instead of everyone casting spells for anything/everything. I also liked how the author did the magic system for the most part and how the Craft was hereditary. I did love the idea of The Enchanted Village and the different crafts each Crafter had. This was an interesting concept, with so-so execution.
